Research Interests

I am interested in reconstructing the nature of past glacial environments by looking at ancient and recent glacial deposits.  More specifically, I characterize the physical properties of glacial deposits and use facies analysis and stratigraphic analysis with two aims in mind:

  1. to further our understanding of past climate change by looking at the geological record of past glaciations and,

  2. to characterize surface and subsurface glacial deposits for various environmental and resource management applications.

My research approach consists predominantly of field based study of glacigenic sediment and sedimentary rock, but also include laboratory analyses of sediment cores.  I also work with others to incorporate hydrogeological, geochemical, geophysical or microbiological data sets.  This research will help us better understand climate change as well as the nature of the deposits that underlie much of the Canadian landscape.
